teamwork & sportsmanship

Athletics provide a great educational experience because they can teach important values for dealing with the circumstances of life. The values taught through athletics include teamwork, sportsmanship, respect for self and others, caring, dedication, commitment, trustworthiness, loyalty, responsibility, integrity, fairness, and doing ones’ best regardless of the outcome. These values are often called “intrinsic” because they may not be included in the lesson plans coaches prepare, but they are very much a part of what a successful coach teaches.
coaching & leadership

Successful coaches have a keen ability to listen, motivate, develop and mentor student athletes. They understand the needs of the athlete and inspire them. They teach players the importance of owning their development to achieve their personal goals. They serve as role models and foster an an ‘open door’ policy for athletes and parents to feel confident in approaching them. They understand student athletes need to know where they stand and that they treat all members of the team equally. It's a common believe that gifted players will play at a high level regardless of who thier coach is; a true measure of a great coach is how they take a good player with average skills, inspire & teach them, in an effort to help them reach their full potential. They will make players see what they can be, rather than what they are.
